| Alice laughed. "There's no use trying," she said" One can't believe impossible things." "I daresay you haven't had much practice," said the Queen. "When I was your age, I always did it for half-an-hour a day. Why, sometimes I've believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast." From Through the Looking Glass by Lewis Carroll |

| Cow Parade Margaret River | Top ^ |
Currently there are more than 80 grazing
cows at stunning locations around the Margaret River Region as part of one of the world’s most famous public art events. As part of this event 77 talented artists/art groups had the opportunity to transform a life-sized fibreglass cows into ‘moo’ving’ pieces of art. While CowParade has been held in over 50 cities around the world including ‘udderly’ fabulous destinations such as Paris, Tokyo, London and New York, each event is unique. The cow sculptures do not change from event to event, but local artists are challenged by the works of previous Cow Parade artists and inspired by their own cultural contexts and personal vision of what a cow should look like. Margaret River at present is very
'mooving'! At the end of the event (10 July) the cows will be auctioned off to raise money for charities and regional projects.Click here for more information. |

Despite hundreds of millions of dollars in mining royalties (30% of which supposedly goes back to regional areas), the closure of Year 11 and 12 courses at 21 country high schools in Western Australia has taken place. This article relates to a 16 year old who has quit school as he finds travelling 1000km a week ‘too hard’ – fair enough! Incidentally, the community in question is less than 1.5 hours drive from the richest diamond mine in the world! We do have trouble with priorities! | |

| 'Community - the structure of belonging' | Top ^ |
This is the classic book on understanding the dynamics and power of community. In the words of James Keene, President of Alliance for Innovation -
"Every earnest public servant, every volunteer, every disillusioned citizen, every civic leader, and every community activist or businessperson who truly want to make their communities better should read this book. It can serve as a guide or manual, but Community at its heart is a book of questions, and Peter gently and persistently reminds us that we are the answers."
