Youth:     National Youth Policy (N.Y.P.) Formulation
 
               
 
 
Bank of I.D.E.A.S. has facilitated the development of National Youth Policies / Strategies with 16 countries within the Pacific, Asia, Africa and Middle East areas and authored three publications on such themes.

Recently, the Bank of I.D.E.A.S. has been involved with the development of National Youth Strategies in Bahrain, Jordan, Palestine and Yemen and will shortly be involved with the development of the Somalian National Youth Policy. Peter Kenyon of the Bank of I.D.E.A.S. was a foundation member of the International Council of National Youth Policy (ICNYP) based in Vienna, Austria and was recently asked to serve as President (2006-2008).

 
 
 
 
 
 
On 1st June 2005, the final draft of the Bahrain National Youth Strategy (NYS) was presented to His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al-Khalifa at Rowdha Palace. The NYS has been recognized by the International Council for National Youth Policies (ICNYP) as being the best youth-related initiative in the Middle East. King Hamad congratulated all those involved on their commendable efforts in preparing the strategy. The King also emphasized the importance of taking practical steps towards implementing the strategy, especially in terms of the development of a national youth parliament in Bahrain.
 
 
 

Below is a summary of the National Youth Policy Formulation undertaken by the Bank of I.D.E.A.S.:

   
Facilitation support for the formation of national youth policies in 16 countries within the Pacific, Asia, Africa and the Middle East, they are - South Africa, Pakistan, Fiji, Singapore, Namibia, Botswana, Malawi, The Maldives, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Brunei, Vietnam, Yemen, Bahrain, Palestine, Jordan and Somalia.
   
Responsible for compilation of a Resource Kit for the Commonwealth Secretariat (London) for use with all Commonwealth countries in terms of design and implementation of a National Youth Policy (including authorship of ‘Formulating and Implementing National Youth Policies – a Commonwealth Handbook).
   
Keynote presenter on National Youth Policy Formation to Commonwealth Ministers of Youth (Trinidad and Tobago, 1996).
   
Coordination of international course for Facilitators of National Youth Policy Formulation (India, 1996).
   
Trainer and presenter at Regional Meetings on National Youth Policy in Goa (India), Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) and Beirut (Lebanon).
   
Commissioned by Youth UN Unit (New York) to prepare study on the design, implementation and evaluation of National Youth Policies - part of the UN Report “Global Situation of Youth”, submitted to the World Conference of Ministers Responsible for Youth (1998, Lisbon, Portugal).
   
Author of the “Commonwealth Youth Charter”.
   
Author of “Guide for Formulating and Implementing National Youth Policies in Africa" (Commonwealth Youth Program).
   
Author of Youth Policy Formulation Manual (United Nations, Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific).
   
Contribution to UNICEF ‘National Youth Policy Toolkit’ for Middle East Countries.
